Through the Window

This series of images represents the fascination many of us have in observing the lives of those we regard as leading an affluent lifestyle. All the images were made at night and taken through windows of large houses. The scenes were developed in collaboration with and acted out by the owners. The narratives hint at aspects of interpersonal relationships which, regardless of status and income, impact on quality of life and emotional wellbeing. Drawing from Freudian theory regarding the pleasure of looking (and borrowing a little from the imagery of Hitchcock), this work considers the dynamic of looking in on other people's lives and measuring what we see against our own sense of self
